WHAT IS A CALL TO THE BAR?
A Call to the Bar began as a discussion among lawyers, but is directed to people of all walks and callings. Government is moving far too slowly on the critically important subject of harm from climate change. Unless strong action is taken soon to reduce and eliminate greenhouse gas emissions, it will be too late to prevent even more serious harm. There are strong steps we can take now. Leading economists like Secretary Paulson have recognized that a carbon pricing policy—such as a carbon fee or cap and trade program—would be effective in reducing greenhouse gas emissions without causing harm to the economy as a whole. We need lawyers and good citizens everywhere to become advocates on the subject of taking action to address climate change. Please use this website as a resource, share it with others, sign the Petition for Immediate Action on Climate Change, and ask others to do so.
THE FACTS OF THE MATTER
The effects of climate change are well known. We face huge economic and human costs unless strong measures are taken to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Leading economists agree: there are available measures we can take to solve the problem. We must take action to protect the world ecosystem for our benefit and that of our children and future generations.
Lawyers shape law, climate change is in part a legal problem, and any solution will have to be enacted into law.
Help our society address the urgent problem of climate change.
